Thank You, Bloggers!! Wrapping Up It’s a Wonderful Life Blogathon: A 75th Anniversary Celebration

Well friends, the bubbly has been poured, the cake has been eaten, and we have danced our hearts out this weekend…but that’s not the end of our It’s a Wonderful Life 75th Anniversary Celebration!

Since this is a busy time of year we have some late entries coming in, affording us just a little more time in Bedford Falls.

So keep your eyes on this page as more posts continue to trickle in…

Reading through the posts this weekend, I have noticed this film has a deeply personal effect on each of us, thereby causing ambivalence, indifference, or admiration; but in all cases, a relatability that is hard to deny.

Participants, thank you for generously giving of your time and talents in remembrance of this iconic holiday classic! You’ve made this celebration worthy of Capra’s legendary film.

I hope this event has made us all look at the film a bit differently, whereby giving us new appreciation as we sit down for our annual viewings.

I leave you with the delightful 1947 Lux Radio Adaptation of “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, and Victor Moore.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!!

  1. Thanks for another lovely blogathon and topic. Will be devouring that review page once I’ve seen the original x Do feel a wee bit guilty seeing the remake, but it was so good and I wouldn’t have discovered if it hadn’t been for your blogathon so a big thanks xxx

    1. Always a pleasure. So happy to hear that you fell in love with the remake, Gill! xx Can’t wait till you see the original now…Thank you for your lovely comment ❤

      1. I do like joining a blogathon and finding a gem, this is a gem x

  2. I just published my post! 🙂 Again, I really am sorry it was late, but I do hope it’s worth the wait.

I’m actually working my way through the radio version (in pieces) myself! <3 Have you listened to all of it?

I think the lead-up to the famous kiss is even steamier here than in the movie. 😮 I love that you can practically hear Donna Reed blush in reaction to the loaded way Jimmy Stewart says her dress is “alright”. 😀 Whew! 😉

I included the link to my post in my last comment – but I’ll just drop it here, too, for convenience: https://classicfilmconnection.wordpress.com/2021/12/14/its-a-wonderful-life-james-stewart-and-george-bailey/

    1. I haven’t finished it yet, but I am enjoying it! Oh, yes, you are quite right 😉 Jimmy says it with tones of frustration in the movie and gives a totally different delivery here for the radio version! **swoon**

  3. Thank you for hosting Ari 🎉!
So many interesting takes on such a special film to work through. The best kind of holiday reading 🎄😉
Now I’m looking forward to listening to the Lux production! Will keep my ear out for Jimmy’s delivery in THAT scene 🥰 x

    1. Indeed, so many different viewpoints, topics, and tones have come in! Hope you love it, Lee! ❤ make sure you’re sitting down for Jimmy’s line 😉

  4. I did it! I’ve just returned from my blogging journey through Bedford Falls! 🙂

I think the insight that will stick with me most when I rewatch the film is Paddy’s observation about Bert and Ernie’s simple prayers – how, like George, they may not be “praying men” either, but their words get right to the heart of things because of how well they know their friend. I mean, awww!… <3 🙂 And I LOVED Lee’s video investigation into the significance of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. 😀

Speaking of significance, your blogathons have had such an impact on me. <3 Honestly. Both inspired me to dive into topics I never would’ve considered on my own, and both have influenced me in larger, more general ways. The Bernard Herrmann blogathon reminded me that I like to tell stories, which changed the way I write and the way I view my blog. And this one was just…cathartic in a way I didn’t expect. Emily at the Flapper Dame said in her post that we shouldn’t ignore when someone says “If it wasn’t for you…” or “Thanks to you…”, because those are our own It’s a Wonderful Life moments. And by that same token, I’ll add that we shouldn’t hesitate to tell people the “If it wasn’t for you…” / “Thanks to you…” difference they’ve made. So, if it wasn’t for you seeking me out and inviting me to participate in your first blogathon, I never would’ve known about it or had these experiences. And thank you for creating and hosting these two events that have had a significant impact on me – as a blogger, a writer, and a person. <3 Merry Christmas!

    1. That was a lovely observation Paddy made, you’re right! And yes, wasn’t Lee’s video a blast?!

The beauty of blogathons is, in a word, discovery. Of other bloggers, films, stars, topics, the list is endless, really. As a bonus, they are tons of fun 🙂

Aww Jillian, I’m touched by your beautiful comment and so honored to be a part of your blogging journey and life.

Merry Christmas to you, dear Jillian! ❤
